On the way to Colorado, I noticed that all gasolines are not created equally. So... what's your octane?

Down here, it's 87 for regular, 89 for medium, and 93 for premium.

I think it's $1.83 for 87 here.

You can thank the fine legislators of Colorado for your sky high fuel prices. I think Colorado (& California) have mandated special blends of fuels which cost higher to refine/produce.

Same octane levels here. I filled up at $1.79 per 87 octane gallon yesterday. My 8.3:1 compression engine requires nothing better than that.

Same Octanes here.

I always get the 89 Octane. I love how the truck and bike run smoother on it.

That was going to be my question...

has anyone really noticed a difference in two or three points of octane?

I'm guessing in my 92 Camry I'm not going to see ANY difference?

Also, have you noticed a difference between "name brand" gasoline e.g, Shell, Chevron, etc, and "no brand" gasoline e.g., Kay's Foodmart up the street from me?

I do notice a difference in my truck between the octanes. When I get the 87 octane, the engine pings and hesitates at times.

As far as the brands. I normally get the Kroger stuff or the Flying J gas. I don't notice any difference between those two brands. I'm getting only Flying J on my drive to Philly tomorrow.

3 or 4 octane points do make a big difference. It just runs better... more power, better gas mileage. I don't think it really matters which brand you get, but some have additives that supposedly keep your engine clean. Shell V-power is supposedly slightly better, because it's technically 94 octane, even though it says 93. Not sure how true that is, but that's something I've heard.
