Posted: 09/22/03 - 11:44 Post subject: GROCERY STORE RANTs here
i despise grocery shopping for reasons too numerous to list. today, i was lucky enough to get the much coveted parking space nearest the entrance so i took it.
one of my cow-shoppers sees me heading to the van with a huge cart full of bags and instantly puts on his "flashers" indicating he is waiting for my spot and subsequently backs up traffic in front of the store; all watching and waiting as i loaded the back of my van with 65 bags of stuff. just watching and waiting. i wanted to say - HEY, HOW ABOUT SOME HELP HERE YOU COWS???? but i didn't.
do you ever look in people's carts as you stand in the checkout line and assess what they are buying -- HA, that figures - he's a wide bodied 757 and has nothing but hungry man maximum dinners and sarah lee. i find it hard not to them.
what do you love about the grocery store? maybe i'm alone here but i'd rather go to Talbots, really.

I don't love a thing about the grocery store and despise going. I think a lot has to do with having to take three children with me that makes the experience awful.
Good News: Our store just started a free daycare called Kids Corner. They're locked in and tagged. There are monitors all over the store to watch them. They sanitize the kids and everything in there. My girls go and I'm waiting for the day for my son to. Then shopping will be ever so fun!

I love all of the variety of food. Kasia, our Au pair actually was like when she went in the first time.
They now have "max packs" with mega sized stuff like tp and pt.
I hate, checking out. it takes so long.
Why can't they just wiegh your cart and charge per pound.

I have often thought that I should start a neighborhood business shopping for people. I LOVE GROCERY SHOPPING. It's the only time I can buy as much as I want of what I want and afford it.

I hate people who have a ton of items, and get in the express line. The checkers never make them go get in the right line

Minus the Big Macs of course...
I love grocery shopping. Not sure why cuz I'd think I would hate it. I always run into someone there so maybe that's why.
and yes, I ALWAYS look at what people are buying....

Whenever someone puts their turn signal to indicate that they want my parking spot, I somehow convientely remember that I forgot something in the store and go back.

I like to wander, so i don't mind going so much. I don't like checking out and i won't let anyone else bag my groceries (i used to work as a bag boy, i know how crappy a job they do).
I love: finding a bottle of Jones Soda on the shelf. Green Apple flavor.

i think i have a list because i love it that much.
1. carts jammed together that qualify a mini workout trying to unjam them.
2. people in the middle of the aisles.
3. slow shoppers who hoard space infront of items with their bodies and carts.
4. musak
5. kids who have control of the cart as the parent meanders around and the kid just about smacks into my cart.
6. the mentality that my own daughter takes on after seeing the kid with the cart.... why can't I do that too, MOM!?!
I hate, hate, hate grocery shopping. I actually have a neigbor who says it's "her special time for herself." I said...oh, I run. My special time must be pretty special alright by the way she looked at me. Give me Talbots anytime. Better yet, a Talbots with nothing onsale.

I actually enjoy grocery shopping because I love to cook. But I do have a few peeves:
Why do you pack my raw meat products with my fresh produce? Yes, I know I bagged it in its own plastic baggies, but not five seconds ago I asked you to "Please PACK MY MEAT IN A BAG BY ITSELF".
Why is it our local grocery store has the crappiest produce? More than once I've gotten home and the centers of the apples are rotten or several potatoes in the bag are rotten or the avocados are rotten at the core. They brag about how they're saving us money--How do they save US money by selling rotten fruits and veggies? So, now I spend more and go to an off base produce market/store.

that one person you "meet" whilst trying to unjam the cart usually stays in your way for the entire way thru the store. parking themselves in your way no matter where you go and then -- the best part - they always beat you into the checkout line. but still manage to get in your way in the parking lot.

Since I'm only grocery shopping for me mostly I can get thru the store in a hurry. Generally takes me a bit over a half hour. Ten months of practice and I'm finally figuring out where everything is. Some people move so damn slowly and take up so much space it's ridiculous. And my favorite one of all is to stand there at the register and watch the cashier ring everything up and then when it's finally tallied they dig around in their pocket or purse and to find the checkbook/credit card/cash to pay for it. Why not have it out and ready and have your check all written out except for the final total?

You know what's FUNNY?
When you run into someone at a grocery store right at the front. Get the small talk out of the way and move on.
Only to run into that person about 5 more times in various aisles...After the 3rd time there's really not much else to do than smile...
