Simple supply and demand Pug. If there is a limited supply of gasoline, there is a very good reason to charge $6 a gallon. Higher prices will limit the demand. Artificial (i.e. government) controls will not limit demand.

In the wake of a major disaster on the other hand, it's a greedy, nasty thing to do to people in the first day after the disaster. If it turns out that the supply truly will be limited by 50%, then maybe $6 is reasonable. Mere days after the event....that's criminal.

If the demand is there, people will open up their wallets. Mr. Green

I think it's also wise to question the value of "just in time" as a supply tactic.

PH is a freaking attention whore. You need to go knock somebody down in the race chute or something.

Maybe if the environmentalists would let the gasoline companies build some new/additional refineries and maybe if we didn't have to have 40 some odd different blends of gasoline for every municipality/state out there - "just in time" wouldn't be such an issue when it comes to gasoline production.
