the good news......I'll be the ONLY one here, not even patients will be coming in. Paid to Riff Raff. |
As long as phone, fax and e-mail are working, I've got things to do.

we have not yet begun to realize the effects of this hurricane on the entire nation, not just LA and MS....nor will we until the human situation is under enough control to fully assess the damage to the our fuel delivery - production, refining, and the supply pipeline(s) include delivery into our ports from other nations...

You forgot the 'damn George Bush' tagline.
..slacker |
bush will need to cut the muster on this one...i'm not trying to be doomdayish but it may be far bigger challenge to our country than any of us can imagine right now...
so far our response to this on the federal/state/local relief level isn't encouraging in the event of another 'unfathomable' terrorist attack...

I was thinking about the possibility of another attack, actually. This would, unfortunately, be a great time to take advantage of the US.
(I am morbid.)

My local QuikTrip went up 20 cents per gallon between 12 noon and 3pm today alone. They were making annoucements over the gas station's PA system that they were out of regular and mid-grade unleaded (only had premium gasoline left).

If this keeps up, the commute early next week should be a breeze. :woohoo:

It is interesting to note that at least in this area, it's business as usual.. TV has limited coverage of the disaster, except during scheduled news and when W made a speach at 5. Not much on the radio except KYW All news..all the time.
The major topic of talk is the price of gas.... What about the potential of 1000+ people dead, a major US city wiped off the face of the map...80% of it under water...
It terrorists had done this...they would be driving loudspeaker trucks up and down the streets 24/7 keeping us updated... it would be the only thing on TV...
I have yet to hear my company talk about a matching donation program to help the homeless...
WTF??

It's BIG on the news down here, obviously. Local businesses, )including the restaurant and resort) have already started collecting funds. Many people who live here survived Andrew and understand what it means to lose everything and rebuild.

Local Radio Host Neal Boortz had a great take on those who have "lost everything."
| Neal Boortz wrote: | "AND NOW SHE HAS NOTHING ...."
Yes .. the situation on the Gulf coast is terrible. It is beyond imagination for most of us. But let's not forget where we live; let's not forget what America is all about. We're not all looters.
This morning I heard a TV anchor discussing the plight of some young woman named Natalie Brown. The anchor said that she fled the hurricane and left her house and her job, and now she has nothing.
Nothing?
First .. the obvious. She still has her health, her friends, her family, her education, her ambition, her car and her boyfriend. In fact, she's staying with her parents! Her bank accounts are still safe. The money is still there.
This means she "has nothing?"
Natalie Brown lives in America. She has now made the decision to relocate away from New Orleans. That she can do with relative ease. She lives in a country with a vibrant and growing economy; a country where hard work and good decision making will be rewarded. She gets to relocate and seek another job in a country that has embraced the one economic system that has lifted more people out of poverty than any other economic system in the history of civilization. She left a home she rented behind in New Orleans ... and is going to plant roots elsewhere in the greatest country in the world.
And she "has nothing?"
Tens of millions of people around the world would trade places with Natalie Brown right now. Today. Hurricane and all. Tell them that she has nothing. |

The highest price I saw on the way home was $3.21 for regular. The lowest was $2.78. There were lines of cars at every station.
