When I first moved to the city in 1994, we lived in an apartment complex where there was a dude with the same last name in another building. Apparently he ran up thousands and thousands in credit card debt and then bailed. We would get calls and letters all the time, and then we moved. We had a reprieve for a few months, and then got even more calls and letters.
Even after moving into a third time, The Paramedic (Mr. elkid) & I are still being harassed for this guy who is "a member of the family", someone "we're hiding". Funny thing is, this guy has the same name as hubby's late great-great-grandfather, so when they call he pretends to be all broken up about it. We used to get really frustrated, but now just toss everything. When they call, they immediately get to talk to one of the dogs.
Special bonus with this situation: whenever something doesn't get done at home, or something gets broken, we can always blame it on that felon we're harboring.
