PostPosted: 04/06/04 - 09:03    Post subject: Fun 'n' Games In the Emergency Room
For the past week, I've had trouble sleeping most nights due to very bad pain on the left side of my face. We thought it was my sinuses for some reason (referred to in my "9-1-1" thread in the race report forum), and I was taking decongestants. The first time it seemd to help out. But...

Yesterday afternoon, these stopped working with a vengance. Went to bed early, but the pain is at it's worst when I am lying down. I had to call LC at work, and could barely talk to her. I told her the words I have never said, or had said about myself in my life:
........................................................."I have to go to the emergency room."

When she came home from work, we drove to the hospital (she drove, which I think was another sign how bad I was). Hospitals scare the snot out of me, and while I've been in emergency rooms with others, going in for the first time in your life is an intimidating sort of thing. They had three doctors check me out before they figured I have inflamed nerves. They've referred me to a specialist, and in the meantime have given me some Vicodin to help me sleep (I haven't had pain medicine for twenty years or so).

Sitting in the room waiting for the doctors was not a good thing - I'd occasionally get afraid of what they'd find, or would they have to do something right then and there. Then for some reason, I thought of young Abby, and figured, "If she can go to the hospital all those times and still have that huge smile in those pics, I shouldn't worry." From that point on, it was all right. So thank you, Abby, for being a role model to this grown-up. And of course to LC who got me to the hospital.

(and to answer your question, they did not x-ray my head to see if there was anything there Razz )

Was it Trigeminal neuralgia????? If so, everything I've read is that it is supposed to be one of the most painful things you can experience Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked too bad too bad I hope the vicodin eases things until you see the specialist and that they find something that is easily solved. too bad Hang in there
