Last night I worked in a section where flat mail pieces (magazines, large envelopes, catalogues, etc) are placed in containers for shipping to various and sundry areas of the USA.

To do this job we are dependent on three separate machines to work properly:

The Tray Management System to get the flat trays from the processing area to our shipping area

The tray lidder - automatically places a lid on the flat trays

The Strapping machine - automatically straps down the lids on the flat trays

Last night for the entire night not one of these machines worked properly. They either kept breaking down, not working for more than two or three trays or got jammed up with hundreds of flat trays.

I don't mind working but we would have a frenzied five minutes of work followed by a frezied five minutes of idleness...

Sheesh !!!

Sounds like the Society of Inanimate Objects at work (ya know...they're the reason the toast always falls on the butter, and that cufflink rolls under the dresser, never to be seen again).Wink

Sorry you had a bad night. Sad

Really throws a spanner into the argument that machines are so much cheaper than people. Sorry your night was crap.

Still no changes. Machines are still messed up. I worked my regular job so I was not privy to the aggravation last night.

I asked our shop stewart to talk to the union president about this situation. This is absolutely inexcusable. Millions of dollars for these systems and they can't get them to work right...
