You're getting married in a church, right?

How about inviting everyone to the wedding and on the invitation have "receiving line, cake and punch immediately following in the fellowship hall". You'll receive gifts, feed one another cake, cross arms drink, kiss a few times, receive your guests' congratulations, feed them cake, punch and after dinner mints and then they'll go home.

THEN you, matt, your new inlaws, your parents and maybe the wedding party can out for a nice fancy dinner at a restaurant that you like. You can easily say "for the immediate family and wedding party only" and they won't feel slighted.

OR just you and Matt can go out to dinner and/or leave for your honeymoon that same night and use the "we don't have time for a reception" excuse.

THEN a month or so later, you can have a housewarming/informal reception at your new house. You can have a tent/dance floor in the backyard if you wish, DJ, and have very casual food and very casual drinks, saving you LOTS of money.
