Lest the Americans forget that without the French the result of the American Revolution is nothing more than a civil war with George Washington carrying the same status as General Robert E. Lee for better or worse.

which is true, but neither are we the Americans of 200 years ago. In many ways I see us sliding back into government control over all aspects of our lives. Much the same as the British controlled our lives prior to the American Revolution.
