I've done this race 2 times in the past, but this year it was held at a new location (for me). Now I know why it moved to a bigger venue too--it's much, much larger. When I first did it, it was maybe 200 people, but now it's up close to 1,000.

I think the temps were in the low/mid 30's and it was kinda windy. I pushed my way up to the front of the crowd so I'd have a decent start place. I was supposed to meet Poky before the race, but the crowd was too large and I didn't spot her. Sad

Gun goes off and I take off with the lead group. Both the 5K and 10K started at the same time. I help back on the first mile and hit it at just under 6:00. The 2nd mile was pretty uninspired, I forget what my split was, but I just wasn't in the racing mood. During the 3rd mile, I heard "PURPLE HAYES!" as I was doing the return leg of the 5K. It was Poky, she spotted me while I was running and I 'd to her.

Not much more and I was headed for the finish line. I knew I wasn't going to break 19 and there wasn't anyone that was going to pass me, so I just cruised home. Finished in 19:09

I finished 7th OA out of at least 475 people and 2nd in my AG. Race results will be posted on this page soon, I'm sure :: http://nashvillestriders.com/RaceResults.htm

Winning time for the 5K was 17:10 (I think). I don't know if that's an indicator of the course and conditions or just nobody really fast showed up that day. dunno

I did meet up with Poky after the race. Got to meet her husband too. All she did was say bad things about Akern and all the other Riff-Raff peeps she's met. Razz

Her husband took a picture with his camera phone. Hopefully, Poky can post that.

Neither. I think she just yelled out "PURPLE HAYES" a lot and waited for someone to wave back.
