Long Version
1. The keyword for the forum is civil, which means we all need to be courteous and polite to one another. Insults and personal remarks are not civil behavior, nor is sarcasm. I would hope we treat each other as guests in our own homes who may hold different viewpoints.
2. Remaining on topic means confining your remarks to the topic at hand. If a topic leads you to another line of thought or questioning, start a new thread.
3. If you voice a belief or opinion, be prepared to have it criticized and challenged. This does not mean you as an individual are being criticized and challenged. While no direct or indirect personal comments or sarcasm is allowed, having a bit of thick skin might help.
4. Freedom of speech means the state cannot arrest you or kill you for speaking your mind. It doesn't mean we allowed to post hurtful or mean spirited words or images here under the guise of free speech. If this forum does not allow you to fully express yourself, then somewhere out there in cyberspace a place does exist where you can more successfully make your voice heard.
5. Censorship is a bad thing. Thought should not be censored. We are a community here at Running Forums, and a community of very different individuals. Our individual political opinions and beliefs each hold validity and deserve respect. We can disagree, and disagree vehemently, but remember each of us is to be treated with respect and our comments tempered with civility. A locked thread is not censorship, it is enforcing our own rules of decorum.
6. We discuss strong stuff here. Emotions may rise, and sometimes tempers may flare. We need to be quick for forgive each other if, in the heat of discussion, we unwittingly say something uncivil. We also need to be quick to apologize.
Short Version
1. Be civil. Be nice, respectful, do not insult anyone or be sarcastic.
2. Stay on topic.
3. Remember if your thoughts or opinions are challenged, you are not being challenged as a person.
4. Speak your mind, but be prepared to have your opinions and beliefs questioned.
5. The best way for us to avoid locked threads are to remain civil, and be quick to say "I'm sorry" and "It's ok" if we get carried away.

What's wrong with that? I like the idea of stopping an uncalled-for attack on someone if it is
a) off topic Rule #2
b) uncivil...or worse, as many of us tend to get when we're pissed Rules 1, 4 & 6
If someone wants to continue an attack, there's always PM, no?
Thanks for stating everything so clearly PH.

That's an exclamation mark meaning, "amen brotha". Truth be known, not too many people on this board are uncivil to others. I think most can recognize the handful that tend towards the uncivil occasionally.
