You over-tipper you! Making the rest of us look bad! I guess it's hard for me to stomach sometimes because of how often you have to go. And luckily it doesn't take 4 hours to get mine done, wow, you must get sick of that chair!!!! But when you get up to that amount (over $100) just for the service it just seems to be getting overkill to add another $20 on to it (and then do it again in 6 weeks....). And does it matter if they are part owner of the salon, because I think my gal is??? I don't know, the whole thing is just confusing!!!!! |
Normally I'm not in there that long. This time she first had to strip (or try) the red out of my hair because I decided to go back to my natural blonde. So there was that process, then also putting the blonde back in. I have to go back (thanks to the snow I'm misisng my appt for today) to get my ends foiled, but the great thing is that my next 2 appts to get my hair all one color are free.
I was dying my roots myself, so I didn't have to go in very often for coloring, unless I was going lighter, which I've done once. So really, I'm mostly seeing Marie to fix a color issue or to cut my hair. I only tip about $7 for the cut. It's uber thick, and she really shampoos me well (she is such a good scalp massager!) AND she's not part owner. I do think that makes a difference. If your gal is, I don't think I'd sweat it too much.
It's very funny, the day I gave Marie that big tip, the salon was so busy. I guess a customer made some sort of comment about my tip to Marie. I wasn't at all loud about it, but she overheard and was offended I guess that I gave her such a big tip. I don't get that at all. I don't think this woman realized how long I'd been there and how much time Marie had spent on me. Maybe she felt I was making her tip look bad?

No one who spends that much, that often, on a haircut is cheap. |
Well it differs sometimes, it's about $70 for the highlighting that gets done (shhhh...don't tell anyone) every 6-8 weeks, then $30 for the haircut. Sometimes I skip the haircut and just do it every other time. But still, all in all it adds up!!!!

So do I ask her "Are you part owner so I don't have to tip you?"

You don't tip owners. If you don't know and do it by accident they should have the good manners to let you know. Period.
I probaby overtip, but I'd tip the furniture guys, to ensure that they put it together properly and stuck it in the right place. Knowing what happens to people who DON'T tip and are regulars in a restaurant in which I was employed many years ago (no, I didn't do it; the cooks did it for me) is enough of an eye-opener. It wasn't just no tipping, however. There was a sexual harassment issue which went unrectified by the owner. A good redneck cook will take care of these isssues unasked. They live for this stuff. If you ever want to hear the story let me know. It still bothers me that the owner of said establishment didn't stick up for me and the cook was ready to blow him a new hole.

I was referring more to the "massage parlor" reference.
