Any hints/do's/dont's? We're packing our own boxes, etc, but most likely will have movers load/unload and drive the truck. This is sad...but I've always just rented a truck and have had friends help for beer/pizza.
Additionally, the furthest they'll take the "fun" car (we're driving the other and selling that stupid Explorer) is Miami..so it's got to be driven down from there....
I've received quotes ranging from $2445 - $5000+...I am obviously doing research on the moving companies as well, but just wondered if anyone had some additional advice (besides throwing it all out and starting over).

I've never moved more than 15 miles at a time but I seen a special on 60 minutes about the scariness of moving company's. 
Apparently a lot of them give you a quote, if you agree they pack up all your stuff, then before they give it back to you they jack up their price. You no pay, you no get your stuff.

jave not moved far. But had a bad experience with a moving company.
1. Go with a big name
2. Insurance and bonded is everything
3. They take a long time to load, make sure they have lots of guys. Pro movers are the way to go. Those guys really move fast.

I was going to go with Allied (best quote/reputation so far) but I am starting to look at other options...we could certainly have plenty of help loading/unloading at both places.

Generic moving advice:
Label or number every box and keep a detailed list of what is in each box so you can find it easily later.
Use towels and blankets to wrap breakables. Packing paper is a mess and you have to use so much of it and then just throw it away.
And do a big Goodwill session before you go. Don't just pack up your entire closet - look through and ask if you really want something and if you're going to wear/use it - if not, get rid of it. I have been known to get rid of half a closet that way. Less to pack and less to worry about.

I moved from far western KS to Nashville with everything I owned in a '78 Cutlass Supreme.
Worked well for me, have you looked into maybe renting one of those?

Have moved often.
Watch your stuff well, make a video/digital pic record of all your important posessions and the condition they are in.
If your fridge is going, unplug it a couple of days in advance and clean it well and place a clean stocking filled with baking soda in it.
Make sure your insurance (renters/owners) is up-to-date and find out what exactly they cover.
Dependable Auto Shippers only charged us $700 to get our car from Joisey to Ca. And they did it quickly and took excellent care of it.
Make sure they use fresh boxes for your mattress--they will try to get away with using old ones, possibly.
Drain your lawnmower and clean it well.
If you see something that makes you uncomfortable/unhappy SPEAK UP!
Set aside what you want to take in your vehicles/suitcases in a locked room or in your car. (Some a$$clowns will pack it no matter how many times you have told them not to)
If you are driving, take a kitchen box with a pot/pan, kitchen utensils, can opener, and some spices. Also take a set of sheets/towels--you will get your mattress first, but that way you don't have to look through a million boxes to find sheets for those first few nights.

Airehead had great tips!!!
-Pack a special box for your must have's like remote controls; cords; screws from things taken apart; can opener; etc. It comes in very handy if you have those things right there when you arrive to start assembling things.
-Pack candles in a separate box of their own and try to remember where it was packed on the truck. You'll want them separate in case they melt. In Florida, you'll want to take them inside once you get there.
-Don't pack any fluids that are flamable. Draining your lawnmower(as stated before), gas cans emptied , some cleaning agents, even lighters should be left behind. You don't want to run the risk of a fire with all your belongings on board. It's a pain to get rid of the cleaning stuff, but it's something you should do.
-Count and inventory your boxes. Mark them well. Reinforce the bottom of the box with tape too.

Excellent points, Nolefan!!!
Go behind them when they are unscrewing a bed or piece of furniture. Put all the screws in a ziploc and label it. Then do a new ziploc for the next piece of furniture.
(No lie: one moving company put all the screws from all our furniture in one container.) PITA putting stuff together again!! They should also assemble your furniture when you get there.
Also ask if they will come back and getting your packing detritus once you have unpacked. Some companies will come back and pick it up as part of their cost.
Also about the cleaners: Most companies won't move wine/liquor/flammable cleaning products. (Or at least they're not supposed to). A few days in advance make a big box of all your cleaning supplies and liquids (soaps, lotions, shampoos) and give them away at your garage sale. Keep only enough to clean your house.
