I think he moved to China to keep his high profile Wal-Mart job.

He would make a most excellent greeter. "Hi, how are you today? We have some nice urine stains on aisle 3, be sure to stop by those during your shopping experience!"
Man, I envy that guy's ability to make everything sound so darn POSITIVE!

Either there or in the electronics dept. Can you see it now?? End caps featuring the BEST OF CDs and DVDs of Patrick Swayze.
Whole endcaps in homage to that great movie icon.

Did you catch the percent of Wal*Mart items that are now made in China?
80%!
Thanks to the Clinton negotiated open market with China in the mid-90s, Wal*Mart has exploited it to the tilt. They abandoned their 'Made in the US' preference and are going for gold.
Rex used the term first here, monopoly, and Frontline sure made it seem like they're dang close.
The solace I take though is like everything in this country, nothing last forever and even though Wal*Mart is top of the heap right now, I'd bet dollars to donuts ten years from now their business model won't apply anymore and these debates will be but a memory.

We did not get it down here. Stupid satellite service. Which sucked, because I really wanted to watch it.

I wish I had recorded the first part about how they use technology because I would have used that in my class.
I found it interesting that at one point (in the 80's and early 90's) they were saying buy american, but they were purchasing from suppliers overseas.
I heard that 80% figure as well. What got me more was it is 80% of the 6,000 suppliers. That means almost 5,000 suppliers are in that one area in China!

Don't worry if you missed it. Like any good corporate TV network, PBS will show it again. To their credit, usually sooner than later.

I caught it last night in my hotel room.....very interesting indeed. I work for a trading company that specializes in bringing in goods used in OEM manufacturing in from china and other far east countries and I couldn't believe the trade imbalance between the USA and China. I also cant believe that Wal-Mart went against an American Company(Five Rivers Mfg.) in their anti-dumping case against chinese TV manufacturers. NOW THAT IS UN-AMERICAN!
