hey everyone.
i just got a new pair of shoes from at a running shop, awesome place. 5 step fitment process...
to the point, i now have shoes that are the right size and setup after running in shoes that were the wrong size, two sizes too big to be exact (never had a proper fitting before), and i'm a pronator, so they have support for that. anyway, the outside edges of my feet (opposite my arches) hurt pretty bad my first time running in them, like they were cramping up. would that be considered normal for getting used to new shoes? or just because i'm actually wearing the correct size now? or is it altogether bad?
thanks!

I just talked with a guy from the running shop, he told me that runners who pronate and wear a shoe that help correct that usually have the problem that I'm having. The correction forces you to put pressure on part of the foot that doesn't usually doesn't get much pressure because of the over pronation. It takes a few weeks for the foot to adjust to the new setup and all will be well.

it the shoes dont feel good right off the start then they are not good for you.
remember that he is a salesman and gets paid via you buying shoes from him. I dont care how intense the fit process was. Most of the time it common sense and being to detailed about the process usually confuses the customer more than helps them understand.
What I think is that you are getting to much support for your pronation. Usually a brand will have several levels of posting from neutral to max support.
You may want to consider going down a level or two as far as the posting or support in that shoe.

I just ran the Cooper River Bridge Run this past weekend. I see you're from Summerville, I'm guessing you attended? Anyways - the outer edge of my foot, right around the area in front of my heel is killing me! I have no idea what is going on or what I did to my foot. Sounds similar to you... I'd like to know as well.

thanks for your replies.
actually SCKawaii, my wife walked while i kept our kiddo this time. next year i'm running.
as it turns out, my feet just had to get used to the new shoes. my right foot still hurts as i broke that ankle a few years ago and it turns outward and takes more of a beating on the edge of my foot. its not really a horrible pain, more uncomfortable. i'm confident that it will go away soon. it doesnt hurt while i'm running, just when i stop to walk.

Hi, I am having this same exact problem using a Nike Air Structure Triax+10. This is the first time that I have had my running checked out and found that I overpronate, thus the structured shoes. Did that pain on the outside of your foot go away or did you end up getting different shoes?

I am also having this problem. New to running and been fitted with some shoes to help my pronation but now the outside part of my foot is hurting when I run. I'm hoping that this is because I am not used to running and using that part of my foot.... Will perservere!
