WASHINGTON -- It will serve as a living tribute. With each wind, each breeze, a set of chimes housed in a 93-foot tower will create a different song in memory of the 40 people who sacrificed their lives trying to save the lives of others.

Four years after United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into a reclaimed strip mine near Shanksville, Somerset County, on Sept. 11, 2001, the design that will serve as the national memorial was unveiled here yesterday in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Hall of Flags.

"Crescent of Embrace" will feature a Tower of Voices, containing 40 wind chimes -- one for each passenger and crew member who died -- and two stands of red maple trees that will line a walkway caressing the natural bowl shape of the land. Forty separate groves of red and sugar maples will be planted behind the crescent, and a black slate wall will mark the edge of the crash site, where the remains of those who died now rest.

Looks pretty much like the symbol of Islam, don't you think?

Only to Realclearpolitcs and Michelle Malkin

I guess this is off topic, but Malkin also writes in another blog entry

"This is not the time to give a weak performer the benefit of the doubt. The FEMA director's role in the ongoing recovery effort is too important to be entrusted to a clueless political hack with such poor judgment.

Rather than praise Michael Brown, Bush should fire him."

Tough talk from the new Anne Coulter! Wow.

Wow, that's really digging to find ways to stir up conflict.

I know the shape is just a coincidence, but even if the memorial was inspired by the Islamic crescent I don't see what the problem would be - wouldn't that be a gesture peace after all the misplaced anger directed at Islam since the attacks? Or maybe some people are hell bent on clinging to the tired point of view that all muslims are to be hated.

You know for certain that it's just a coincidence? How so?

The shape, color, and memorial title are all just a coincidence... right. What's next? A Nazi swastika on the ground in Aushwitz (sp.)?

In case you forgot your history book, here is what happened four years ago: Muslim terrorists murdered several thousand American citizens on US Soil!

Perhaps the so-called artist should memorialize what actually happened that day, not his/her interpretation of what happened. I think it is incredibly distasteful (at very, very best) to even remotely suggest any symbol of Islam at this memorial. Even if it's just a simple unintentional "coincidence."

I see a big f'ing problem if was it inspired by an Islamic crescent. Why not add a photo of that peace loving Islamic wonderboy Osama Bin Laden gazing down over his handiwork?

Where does it say it was inspired by the Islamic flag? I didn't make the connection until Sonny did and I still don't really see it. I mean, I see your point if that were the case, but I don't see it.

I guess where we differ Sonny is that I thought the attacks were perpetrated by a group of hate filled extremists. You seem to think the attacks were perpetrated by the religion of Islam.

That would be distasteful Rob, I agree. But I don't see what Osama Bin Laden has to do with Islam.

Why won't any Islamic Iman or other high ranking cleric condone these types of attacks then (against the US, Israel, etc)?

I realize that its extremist doing the killing, but the Muslim community as a whole (read, worldwide) seems to be silent about condoning the attacks.

Hate filled extremists who just happened to all be Muslims. Who happened to be funded by an Islamic terrorist group. A group, who it just happens, claims that every terrorist act they pull off is done in the name of Allah. It wasn't just hate filled extremists.
