drove 35 miles to Shanksville today, the most beautiful november day in western pa ever, i'd bet.

there were 30 of us this year, running the 9.3 mile course around the crash site of Flight 93. this is strictly a fundraiser for the Shanksville VFD so there are no results posted, no medals, no shirts this year, it's a very mellow run thru the PA mountains.

the day was heaven-sent; clear as a bell, a nice breeze and about 60 degrees at 1PM when we started. i actually got sun burned in november.

again, the hallowed ground of that crash site just hits you like a ton of bricks when you crest that hill. it has a very surreal feel to it, trying to wrap your head around the fact that- right there in that cornfield - so many innocent lives were taken in such an unimaginable way, changing generations of families for years to come. seeing terrorism in broad smalltown daylight will take your breath away, you needn't worry about the hills youre running; just the close proximity of that site and what went down there that sunny september morning will do the trick, at least for me it does.

i finished in 1:24, a ten minute improvement over last year.

i ran this for the glory of God, quite simply. i'm so grateful.

Excellent job RR. Sometimes it's the stripped down races that are the best to run.
