For the first time this year, I am finally starting to feel "normal" again!
I ran for the first time Thursday after work, a scant 2.37 miles, according to my GPS, and set no speed records by any means, and my lungs were yelling "WTF?" most of the way, but it felt SO good to be back out there again!! Yesterday, I heard the water calling, so I went to the pool for the first time since after Christmas, deciding I was going to swim til I couldn't swim anymore--which turned out to be 1600m!!!!! Dancing Banana I swim backstroke, so it's way easier to breathe and thus you can swim a lot longer--plus, that was my event in HS and is my strongest stroke. I only swim for distance as a means of cross training and I don't care how long it takes as long as I cover what I want to cover that day, so I was really thrilled!! I think I took like 4 short (30 sec) rest breaks and I know it took a long time because none of the people who were in the pool when I got in were still there when I got out, but I don't care!!!

Feeling pretty good, I then went back to the locker room, downed a bottle of Gatorade and headed to the weight room. I did a modified version of my total body workout, mainly to see how bad my weights had dropped with my long layoff. Some were pretty pitiful, some actually were not. 45 mins and a lot of stretching later, I was exhausted but really encouraged by how much I could do! I probably should have only done lower body after that long swim, because my shoulders are hurting pretty bad today, but I am too psyched!! I know my running is going to take a while to come back, but since I'm not planning on racing much this year, if at all, I just really want to get active again and start working on building my endurance back up. I think this is a good start!!!! I am going out for a short run later today if my legs loosen up a bit.
