Pretty much the first time I've ever really tried to lap swim. Did 250 yards, one 25yd length at a time. I got sore muscles I didn't even know I had.

Good job!
That's about 200 more yards than I did my first time in the water.
I really need to get back in the water myself.

I didn't believe it when I heard the words "keep at it, it will get easier". Especially because the first time I swam I did 300 yards and nearly drowned. I did it once the next week, with similar results. I then started serious training at 500 yards o' death that damn near killed me. But then I started to see those muscles I didn't know I had start to develop, and I just felt strong.
If you would have told me 7 weeks ago that I'd now be up to 1,300 yards 3 times a week, I would've called you a liar and kicked you in the shins. But I'm there. Just keep at it; it does get easier.
I hate it when I'm wrong because TriBob is right. And lately he's right a lot.

Good effort.
I know it feels like you have never swam in your life; but, consistancy is the key (along with learning proper technique).

And what would you recommend as the best way to learn proper technique?
Lessons? One-on-one coaching? Videos? Correspondence Course?
Just wondered...

Lessons. You should be able to get a set of 3-4 lessons pretty cheap. This will cut down the learning curve and frustration. If you have swum (i.e. laps) before you can probably brush up with some video. I have bookmark at work I can post.

Thanks! that should do it. I can get lessons at the fitness club where I'm a member really cheap.
Not swum in AGES but I was a fish as a kid and I do ok in the water now.
Tried laps last week. Um... ok it was humbling. I know I know... different muscles and all. But YEESH! Gasping for breath on the edge of the pool.
LOL!!!

Loved this! Thanks Bob! Thanks thanks thanks!
Spent an hour and a half in the pool Friday trying this stuff out and I gotta tell ya it was a BLAST swimming on my side! For the first time in the pool I thought 'hey you could ACTUALLY do a two mile swim!'
Thanks again!
