Last weekend I had a chance to help a friend smoke
a pig for his wife 30th BD.

Never did this before figured how hard is it to gather wood, put
in in the large smoker, spend Friday night outside (in rotating shifts) to keep the fire hot and add more wood as needed.

The good news:

I'm fine

The pig turned out well and tasted real good (I did not have any).

The not so good.

The doghouse did burn to the ground but the dog was inside this weekend due to cooking.

The garage suffered only minor damage due to the fire.

Good thing I had an extra sets of clothing but alas my 1st ever race t-shirt is no more.

OK, about 2 months ago...

It was blizzarding out, and I came in from scooping the driveway, and the wife was boiling water for the baby's bottles. I went and stood next to the stove to warm up.

I turned around, and when I did so, my shirt somehow got on the burner, and my shirt started on fire, on my back, while I was wearing it! Shocked

My wife was able to put it out, by pounding on my back with a dishtowel. However, that turtleneck is now gone for ever, and a couple of the little ashen-pieces fell onto the floor and made small burn marks in our linoleum.

Shocked

I'm glad there is only relatively minor damage. Makes me think I should move the grill a little further from the house.

Hmmm... burning down the doghouse. That's one way to avoid ending up in it. (which is where I'd be getting my mail if I got my wife smoked pig for her b-day) Wink

I was on fire last spring in a similar situation. I was cooking, I reached up to the cupboard above the stove. My untucked shirt tail landed on the burner as I was reaching and things got hot pretty quickly. I was able to smack it out but alas, a pretty nice shirt was gone.

I've had some fire issues in my past also.... as a youth caught the top of my dad's storage shed on fire when an aeresol can I was attempting to explode in a burn barrel actually did explode and landed as a fireball on top of the shed...

Caught myself on fire when attempting to burn a bee's nest using gasoline for fuel and while personnally fueled up on a full tank of beer... spilled gas on my arm and when i threw a match my arm lit up... and of course stop drop and roll turned into holy sh!t turn around and sprint thus fanning the flames and removing all hair from that arm along with 1st deg. burns...

Burnt all the hair off my face here at work lighting a preheat torch... that included eyebrows, beard/mustache, etc. and part of hair sticking out of my hat....

Caught the field next to the house on fire burning brush on Xmas day several years ago... got that put out after sprinting around and stomping on various burning patches for an hour...

Caught the woods behind the house on fire two summers ago while burning the Xmas tree from the previous Xmas.... that got a visit from the local fire dept. even though me and my neighbor got it under control just as they pulled into the driveway. Managed to burn about a 60 ft square area of saplings and briars down. And as I stood there chatting with the firefolks my wonderful dog, named Sparky of course, came around the wood pile pushing an empty beer can trying to get the last couple of drops out.... the fire fighters got a huge charge out of that especially when they found out the dogs name.

I shouldn't play with matches.

I think I got ya all beat. On Jan 24 my house burnt (for the most part) to the ground. It was caused by a cooking fire (not me). I lost about 95% of the interior contents, including my running stuff. Good news is that the kids and I am in temp housing till the house is rebuilt, and we should be getting the contents check soon.

It has been devistating to us, but we will get thru it. I am still sad about all the personal stuff I lost. BTW it is not the prefered way to clean the junk out of your house Sad

A bunch of runners pulled together and had a nice queen size quilt made out of race shirts from all over the world. It is the most prized possesion I have.

Glad to see you're all getting back on your feet. I read about your troubles at the "other" running site. Not something anyone should have to go through.

wow - RangerG that is so sad. really glad everyone got out OK. the quilt thing is so cool.

my husband and i once woke around midnight to see flames coming out of our next door neighbors roof. we called 911 - got dressed (IT WAS WINTER) and ran outside. by the time we got outside, the flames had gotten smaller and we realized they were coming out of the chimney.

just as 5 huge fire trucks pulled onto the street, flashing and screaming, we knock on this guys door and tell him he has company -- compliments of us Shocked he was sittin' in thar just a burnin' all the Christmas boxes in the fireplace, havin' himself a few scotches and a pack of cigs to boot.

they sent all the huge trucks cuz it was a very old, very woodframe neighborhood with many century homes. we were kinda like Embarassed

the fire department was most understanding.

I didn't realize that was you RangerG. Glad you and your kids are safe though.

My story - I was in a band in high school and because we lacked any real talent, we had to get by on having a gimmick. Anyway, the gimmick was to light my legs on fire for one of the songs. Worked well in practice a few times but didn't work so well come show time. Ended up with a burn on my leg that I still have a scar for today.

I've got it on video somewhere and someday I'll transfer it to a format that I can host on the web so everyone can see what an idiot I was when I was a teenager.
