Posted: 02/22/03 - 07:47 Post subject: Finally some good news from one of Abby's docs
Probably within the next four months, Abby will no longer have her vent and trachestomy. Which means she will be free and clear of all of those machines and will no longer need any nursing care.
Right now the risks outweigh the benefits mianly with the trach being a direct avenue to infection. So by Abby's 3rd birthday she will no longer need the help of anything artificial to breathe.
It will start slowly until she is strong enough to do on her own. She will then go in the hospital for 2-3 days while they watch here after they take it out then she is clear.
On another note
She is still having significant bleeding in both her diaper and colostomy bag. We have a feeling she will need to go back in the hospital soon to have a look. This is stuff we will be dealing with for her entire life.
It is actually hard for me to look at and deal with when I have to change her diapers and empty her colostomy bag. I laugh by saying, I did not sign up for this. I would even take a poop explosion over this blood and blood clots, it is awful. (sorry if I grossed you out)
We know she will likely need a blood transfussion soon so any B positive people in the posse let me know.
We are moving along with her slowly. She will likely have some severe breathing problems her whole life but otherwise has grown strong enough dispite being sick for the last year to be on her own.

That's a big step, Joe! And very good news.....got the ol' tear ducts going a little early this morning. See, we told you she's a fighter, that little one.....this is just the first of many landmark good news posts to come, I am sure of it.
First round of her favorite beverage is on me!

This is huge news!
Maybe once her body can stop dealing with the trach issues, it can start fighting what's going on with her gut. Maybe it'll help her get stronger all around.
I'm pleased to hear things are moving in a good direction for y'all!
Woohoo!

Definitely. Hopefully that will help with some of the other issues. I can see how the blood would be unnerving, to say the least.

I get the feeling the tide is turning.. more good news than bad news, and eventually all good news. Lots of prayers going up on the bleeding. You're doing a great job there Joe!
