With the tsunami death toll estimated at 80,000 and still climbing, it struck me just how lucky we are as I watched on commercial TV. the people returning unwanted gifts.
On one hand there were others spending money on consumer items at the post-Christmas sales that will probally become landfill before the next spending frenzy in December 2005, and on the other we see people who have lost everything, who could only dream of the opportunity to consume in the obscene manner that we do.
Why do I get the feeling that there is something shockingly wrong with this gross imbalance in the distribution of the world's wealth?
Merry Christmas.

You should read this book if you haven't. It discusses at great length what you are feeling. I agree with you.
Affluenza
Also, PBS did a special on it.

It hits close to home because a lot of the examples illustrated are in Colorado Springs.

From the review on Amazon.com,

That is amazing and incomprehensible.
