all last week I felt bad: sore throat, cough, runny nose, plus I had some sort if a wierd outbreak of sores on my tongue. The wife thought I had thrush.
So, after a week of no running and feeling lousy, I went to the doc yesterday, diagnosed me with a sinus infection, gave me a couple of different medicines. I'm feeling better now.
Problem is, I was gonna run my first half marathon(of the season) this saturday, now with no running in basically the last two weeks...I think I'm gonna skip it. I am still running one on June 8th, but it stinks when you've gotta drop out of a race.

Glad you're feeling better, coach!
That's too bad about the race. You could always just consider the last 2 weeks the most drastic taper ever and run it anyway (Just for fun, because running 13.1 miles on inadequate training is my definition of a good time. )!
I'm trying to break out of a week+ of no running as well, but I don't have a race until Joo-ly.
Good luck, whatever you decide to do!

Hey Coach...I'm in the same situation. I have a sinus infection, and a half on Sunday. I haven't decided if I'm going to run it or not. Running 4 was hard enough this morning, but I may have my energy back by the weekend. Hope you feel better, and that you were given great drugs.

coach and kattzoo - if you've paid you should do them. Consider the last few weeks a supah dupah taper and go in considering the race a long run. You may just find your stride and surprise yourself. If you find it too painful, you can always walk to the end or end it early. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
If you haven't paid, then nothing lost.

sidenote: if yours was on Saturday, Kattzoo, I'd say you'd HAVE to run it as it's the last day of Team 4....

No, I hadn't paid yet, and the wife has been on me about being home since I have had track meets on three straight saturdays, so I guess it's probably a good thing. The one in June is in the black hills and will be kind of a family vacation.
Thanks for the kind thoughts everyone!

My best races have come off of nonplanned tapers......but coming off a long taper due to illness is different from long taper for an injury. I think you should skip it....if you push it when your not 100%--you might look at a entire summer of being rundown.
