Gotcha. I don't own one but they're like a tart pan kind of thing that comes apart with the tube in the center, right? |
They look like an Angel Food cake pan but the center is removable. Much higher than a tart pan.

I think the thing holds two cups. The ones I have are white Corning ware.

I had no idea they made angel food pans that didn't have the center thingy come out. How in the world would you get the cake out? I mean, you don't grease angel food cake pans, do you? I have to think because I haven't made one in ages.
All this food talk is making me hungry. Who needs 4 extra peeps at their turkey day table this year?

I think the tube in the pans I use is smaller than the Angel Food one; mostly because I've never made an Angel Food cake. Now if you're talking Devil's Food...

Mmmmmm....chocolate!!!!
OK, I couldn't let this thread die, talking about food is way too much fun!
Next question: howzabout some new veggie side dish suggestions for this Thanksgiving? We usually do the green bean casserole thingie, (I don't count sweet potatoes as a veggie) corn for my roomie cuz he's a wuss and doesn't like veggies, and at least two others. Past faves have been:
roasted cauliflower (oh so yummy and tastes like french fries for you cauliflower hatahs)
broccoli/cauliflower/carrot medley in cheese sauce (my dad likes that-yech)
roasted asparagus with a very light lemon/basil sauce drizzled over
ginger-honey glazed carrots-to showcase my boss' crop that year. He raises bees as a hobby and I always have an unlimited supply of honey!
I need some new ideas, peeps. What do y'all usually make for the veggie sides?

For Thanksgiving, these are the must-haves:
1. a really good salad, maybe spinach with sliced apples or pears, crumbled blue cheese, a little bit of bacon, some pecans, a few craisins, and a great balsamic vinaigrette.
2. some horribly decadent garlic mashed potatoes with real butter and sour cream.
3. steamed broccoli with pine nuts and raisins
4. the standard green bean casserole

Aside from the usual Yam/Sweet Potato "things", there are some good sides the family concots. My SIL makes a broccoli salad that is out of this world. My Wife makes a Broccoli Bake that is full of cheese, broccoli, toasted stuffing topping.
When I was a kid celebrating Thanksgiving in an Italian Family we had tons and tons of pasta dishes of all kinds. Salads, veggies (Not Broccoli Rabe) fortunately Yams and Sweet potatoes did not figure into those menus.

Mmmmm.....that spinach salad sounds awesome! It took me a while to get used to fruit in veggie salad but it rocks.
Andy...ME TOO! My dad's family is Italian and when my Nonni used to do Thanksgiving dinner when I was little, we had not only the turkey, stuffing and all of the trimmings, but pasta and a huge plate of every type of meat you could think of TOO! Unbelievable the food......
Good suggestions so far, keep em comin' folks. It's not that I don't like sweet potatoes, but I don't count them as veggie sides since I always make the sweet potato casserole anyway.

Am I the only one who doesn't like sweet potatoes? I just cannot wrap my head around potatoes and marshmallows in one dish.

Any place is nice as long as the company and food is good. The good company is the most important part. Some of the most miserable dinner parties I have attended have been in some of the most beautiful settings. Hell, why do you think I don't ever go home for the holidays?

No you're not. I cannoy stand Yams or Swett Popatoes. I think of them as some sort of tasteless orange mush. When they put Marshmallows and Maple Syrup then it becomes Marshmallow or Maple flavored orange mush.

You've made the Cooking Light one? I've always wondered how that tasted. I'll have to try this year. Usually I make my sweet potatoes with melted butter and brown sugar poured over the potatoes and baked. mmmmm I've never had them with marshmallows.

cooking light sweet potato casserole is the best! this will be the 4th year i'm having that...the pecans on top are the killer. it's really almost dessert-ish.

Then they will taste like some sort of brown sugar and butter orange colored mush. I'm sorry, but they do absolutely nothing for me. Why should I bother to eat them ?
I happen to like anchovies, especially with some Italian Bread and butter. I don't expect anyone else other than someone brought up Italian to understand my liking Anchovies.
