Posted: 04/12/04 - 20:47 Post subject: Extended traveling
On Sunday I will start traveling again for work (the first of many trips). I will be gone 2-3 weeks at a time. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal because there was always someone at home to take care of things like bills, make sure the house was ok and what not. However now it is just me. (and the super pooch) What do you recommend doing to the house while I'm away. I was thinking turning off the water and water heater, setting the thermostat down low. Is there anything else I should be doing?

Set your lights on a timer because light does discourage theivery.
Set your bills to paid by your bank, that way you never miss one. Auto bill pay rocks in a situation like yours.
Have a good friend check your place constantly.
Have the time of your life! You're young only once--and Mexico is a great place to be young!

Wouldn't leave much in the fridge/freezer. Besides going bad, a tripped breaker or power knock out could leave you with something nasty.

Have your mail held at the post office, and if you get a newspaper delivered, stop that as well

do your local police do vacant house checks. When people travel in Radnor, we check their houses once a day while they are away and report any problem.
We also have people who travel frequently so it is not a bother it all.

It really is not that bad. It shows a presenece on the street and prevents burglaries.

I'm also thinking you don't want to leave the car under any trees or that kinda thing. Maybe garage it somewhere if you can.
