Posted: 10/27/03 - 21:03 Post subject: Evergreen Cemetary Pumpkin Run 10 Mile Race Report
Number 641
Overall Place: 62/200 (Men's Division)
Age Group: 16/34
Time: 1:17:08
Pace: 7:43
Splits:
Mile 1: 7.05
Mile 2: 7.08
Mile 3: 7.32 - Boy was I tempted to finish up now at the 5K
Mile 4: 7.44
Around this point I started to run into wierd aches and pains in my ankle and my inner thigh.
Mile 5: 7.56
Mile 6: 8.03
Mile 7: 8.03
Mile 8: 8.06
Got passed by a guy that normally beats me in races cruises by me but I didn't think I could match his pace for another 2 miles so I let him go.
Mile 9: 7:59
Finally decided to really push it and I almost caught one guy that had passed me between 8 and 9.
Mile 10: 7:36
(I hardly ever remember how I feel at different points of the race so I can't give you a good mile by mile story)
Felt okay today, probably shouldn't have done a 4 mile warm up. 1 mile would have been enough. Felt strong on the last 2 miles though. Since it was my first time on the course I wasn't sure of the markers.
Overall I was pretty happy with my race. The only hard part was that they ran a 5K at the same time so for the first 5K of the race you didn't really know who was doing what distance. That is probably why I went out so fast.
Sooner or later (and I have been saying this for over a year now) I will learn how to slow down some at the start and do a better job of negative splits. The weather was pretty warm and humid for this late in October in Jacksonville Florida. Well that is all for now. Have a great week everyone.
Eric
(Yeah I know Purdue looked awful on Saturday. It is probably a good thing I couldn't watch the debacle on TV. It would have depressed me even more for this race.)

I agree, a 4 mile warm up was probably a little excessive.
Good job on the race though.

Just a glutton for punishment, aren't ya? 14-miles in tot! Good racin'. Was it close to a Pr? That marathon training must be coming together. This was a pretty even race once you got the first couple rocket miles outta the way

Great race!
Sometimes I have to force myself to start further back to make sure I go out slow enough.

I was with some friends and we were chatting as we jogged and the next thing you know we were at the 8 mile marker so we turned around and headed back. I didn't realize they had planned on doing a long run that day so they were doing 4 before the race, do the 10 mile race and then another 4 or 5 after the race!
