Even as a runner, this annoyed the CRAP out of me.

I'd take photo's too and send them to the Mayor, the Chief of Police the local paper and whoever else, praising them as an example to the community and keeping up their fitness standards with an invitation to leave that gas guzzling vehicle home and join them.
Imagine how that would cut down on the rush hour. |
I don't think she is dogging physical fitness and they're enjoyment of running, together, in formation no less. They are setting a bad example for everyone, especially since they are role models. There are plenty of places for them to run. I would seriously doubt these cops are opting not to drive and running to work or to a crime scene.

Yes they ARE ROLE models and THEY ARE setting a GOOD example.
Whether there running to work or not doesnt make the slightest difference, there out there and doing it, and the community sees their Police force doing something about fitness.
Should the need ever arise I'd much rather have a fit copper come to the rescue than some fat slug who plays cards while on crib.
But then the almighty car is king and no one wants to be held up during the rush hour, God forbid.

My point is that running as they were is dangerous, both for themselves and the drivers on the road. Safety, Phar Lap. No one party 'owns' the road, which is why there are rules to follow for all that use it.
It was never an issue of them wasting my time. Sorry you read it that way.

I meant they are a bad example for setting the example that it's ok to run on a busy road during rush hour. Common sense tells you that running on a busy road is not the safest of activities. People get hurt when they get run over by a car. Because they are policemen, they should run in a safer locale. If they must run on the street, run on a not so busy street.
I agree that it's great seeing cops disproving the thought they are all lazy and overweight, but I believe they should do it safely. Safe for them and safe for the drivers.
If this was about a gaggle of women running in a wooded park with headphones, we'd be up in arms about how gallactically stupid they are and warning of all the serial rapists and killers that could come out from behind the tree.

RLAG and Ms. jenn. Don't entirely agree but you both make very good points re. the safety issue.
Ms. jenn, anyone wearing headphones while running, male or female should be taken out and publicly flogged.

ok, so they are out there running. good for them. good for any one body who is out there running; i think i'm with you in that running is a good thing for body and mind and good for them that they are "setting an example"
but Phar, what pisses me off about this whole scene is NOT that she has to slow down and merge and be inconvenienced every single day, but it has EVERYTHING to do with them thinking they are ABOVE THE LAW in that they can run, 3 wide, on a busy highway at rush hour and just have people MOVE THE EFF OUT OF THEIR WAY.
i wonder exactly how long me and my fat-azzed middled-aged women friends, running 3 wide on a highway during rush hour would last before we had a bottle thrown at one of our heads, or a ration of obscentities spewed at us by some hog in an SUV.....probably about 2 minutes. what pisses me off about this, as a runner, is that they may be setting a grand old example to the slovenly driver in his car with a whopper in one hand and who knows what else in the other, but they're really making it tough on all runners out there who dare to run, legitimately, on the shoulder, single file, against traffic. runners, as a group, are despised by drivers and THESE ADMIRABLE officers are just fueling that fire. i pity the poor guy who happens to come along after they've long gone and who isn't wearing a POLICE vest. he's likely to get that bottle thrown square at his skull.
cops should run by the rules. that what pissed me off.
ARROGANCE SUCKS.
