vent

Finals are next week.

I have 3 Kathryn classes. She has given us entirely too much sh!t to do in each class. My torts class went off track so many damn times that we are cramming 12 chapters of contracts (it's torts and contracts in one, yippee!) into 2 weeks of class time. Our final is over contracts. I'd rather be strung up nekkid on the flagpole than take this final.

Crim Law: The criminal justice system makes my head ache. Crimes make my head ache. This class makes my head ache.

Civil Litigation: Very fascinating stuff if not absolutely mind-numbing at times. So much to know from the beginning of a suit to the end of one. Kill me. Please.

Algebra: why in the hell do I need to know variables and how to solve for the damn things? Teach the general ed. students how to balance a checkbook and interest rates on credit cards. Leave the tough stuff for math majors.

Spanish: Yo no comprendo muchas. Or is it muchos? Yeah. And therein lies the problem. Although I have learned very colorful phrases (as my prof is the coolest).

I have the President's Dinner to go to with the boyfriend (I will be the only student there, so this should prove to be very interesting) on Monday. INLaw dinner on Tuesday (I am the Veep of this organization and as such I have to go, nevermind Kathryn would never forgive me for not going). Finals begin on Wed. Wed and Thursday I have finals at 1pm. Boys get off the bus at 2:25. They are Kathy finals, which means they will take 5 hours to complete. Each. I have no idea how I'm going to work around this problem.

I know I'm a very lucky woman because I get to go to college while raising the children without having to work a 40-hour week on top of it, and that I have on most days the mental capacity to pull it off. I'm not ungrateful, and not unappreciative. I just feel like I am coming apart at the seams here.

I've been practicing two new phrases: "Would you like fries with that"" and "Can I biggie size that for you?" just in case this college thing doesn't work out so much. Wink

The good news is that only 177 or so hours until this semester is put to bed and I have an entire month off. I.Cannot.Wait!

Wow Brie...that's a lot..and I know what you are talking about too... Shocked

Look at it this way... I have come to the conclusion that some of the hired guns that argue in front of me, got their law degree as the free prize in a box of Cracker Jack... Mad

And all they are doing is representing someone wanting a zoning variance or appealing a cease and desist...if they had to argue anything at County level....

Thanks, gang.

The good news is: Kathryn is letting us use 3x5 cards, front and back, for notes in contracts & civil lit. Do you know how much info you can get in size 6 font on a notecard? I do. A freakin lot! Not everything I need, but a lot, and I will take it and smile! We're going to ask about crim law stuff on Monday since she didn't mention in class on Friday. Also, she will let us begin both of our 1 o'clock finals at noon, so I am good to go on that score too. Smile

Got out of the INLaw dinner on Tuesday as well, and only because Kathryn likes to be a petulant little girl whenever things don't go her way. She got all pissy when I said I could attend dinner but not stay for the dirty santa thing --which lasted until 10:30 last year--and in front of the whole class, told me not to bother with dinner in that case. So I won't and that will only give me more time to study and even perhaps get to bed at a decent hour!

At any rate, alls well that ends well. I will survive finals and I am getting a lot done this weekend, and will finish cramming on Tuesday. w00t!!

Good luck, I had some of those classes and there is so. much. to. know. Crim law isn't too bad, provided you get the outline down.

Me: a paper I stupidly thought would be better than taking another final is due Tuesday. That's two little days from now. To say I'm freaking would be a huge understatement. 3 finals from Dec. 14th to Dec. 22nd. Only 2.5 weeks off until the whole thing starts again. Woot.

2 ~20ish page papers due tomorrow. In the midst of working on them this afternoon my monitor dies. I'm hoping thats not some sort of omen.

Group presentation Tuesday. I think we're done except for reverting back to high school and baking bribery bone shaped cookies for our bone cancer presentation. I know, its blatant, its cheap, and our faculty openly have sweet teeth. Sue me.

4 finals 12/9-12/16, all critical but one is very do or die for my grade in the class....

And I think I signed up to work most of my very short 3 week break. I do want this, right? yes, yes I do

deliver me.

Way hard at times, not so much at other times, but always something I am glad that I am doing, even if it only stresses to my kids to do the college thing before they have families. This is a hard way to do it, IMO.

Another stroke of luck today, and a total gimme. I had 3 overdue assignments for my Systems class (a computer class) and my prof is totally fabulous, gets that I am a single mom and a very stressed out one at that. We talked today, and she is letting me skip doing those and is just going to give me an A- for my final grade. I did participate and help others with assignments, but she is still being very generous here. Since I dropped my computer minor (not all of the classes needed for the minor are offered in the next 3 semesters) I don't feel too bad about it. And considering my other 5 classes are killing me slowly, I will take it and be quietly grateful.

I.heart.school. Today anyway. Will be pulling out my hair again come Wed. LOL.

The first time Goette Deux came to school with me, she looked around and said, "Mommy when I grow up can I be a mommy and a lawyer?" I said, "Sure honey--but if you've learned nothing else from this experience, be a lawyer first." Cool
