That's the first science unit I'll be teaching.
I took a class on them today and learned how to make a switch...flashlight...and wire a scaled down house. All with batteries, wire and a lightbulb.
That's what I'll be doing with my students for the second quarter. I was apprehensive at first, but now that I've got my training!
HOW COOL!
We get kits to teach real science lessons and units!

Ha!
I do have to stress to the kids the importance of NOT sticking wires into sockets to test whether things conduct energy.
I can't wait to see them make their flashlights. I bet they'll go home and take their real ones apart to see how they work.

What about a paper clip? I'll go test it right now to make sure it is safe for the students.

Ok. No issue with a paper clip. I didn't even get a tingle.
Oh wait. Switch was off. Lets try it again with the switch on.

It will be. I was very apprehensive going to class and left very excited. I know that the kids will love building and constructing things. The final project is to constuct a house out of a box and have light running through it. I guess they get to decorate it...etc... What a thrill. I used to hate to teach science, but this is plain fun!

Would be quite interesting since nobody on here knows exactly where I am.
911: What's your emergency
caller: A guy I know just got electricuted.
911: What's his condition
caller: I don't know.
911: What's his location?
caller: Somewhere in New Castle, Indiana.

When I was a kid I had a way cool flashlight/screwdriver my grandpappy gave me. It was a flashlight, and a screwdriver.
Lying in bed one night, I decided I knew all about electricity. Hey, I had a cool tool, right? So, I unscrewed the lightbulb from the bedside lamp b/c I was going to 'operate' on the lamp...
I stuck the screwdriver in the socket and started my work when, BLAM!! A very loud pop emitted from my lamp, my little flashlight went sailing out of my hand across the room, a breaker flipped, and my spiderman pillow caught on fire and started to smolder. (Not to mention my girlie-boy shriek.)
So hey, if you need any help....

When my a/c went out, my uncle (a/c expert) convinced me to check the circuit with a paper clip. I was so scared I was gonna get electrocuted.
but I didn't.
