I posted this in CR, but thought I would post it here too.
With 16 days until IMFL I have been doing the math in my head and on paper. I have looked through the logs and calculated the distances that I have done. (I do not keep a log of my times and distances, but I know which workouts I have missed, so I can look at my schedule and know pretty close to what I have actually done.)
Now that I have all that done, I realized that I am far short of where I wanted to be at this point. I'm in the first week of taper and although I "feel" strong, I think I am under trained for my goals. MY schedule was extremely easy to follow and the workouts should have left me ready, I'm not. This is not because of the schedule; it is because of all the hurricanes and missed workouts.
I looked back and I missed many of the longer workouts due to either actual hurricanes, impassable roads or not being able to shower or have power, etc.
I have been telling myself that the missed workouts are not going to effect me that much, and in the grand scheme of things, I truly believe it. What is bothering me is that I did not get a chance (A fair chance.) to work on my race nutrition and strategy. The things I feel I need the most work on.
I know I can ride x miles in y time without a problem. I also know I can run w distance in z time. Putting it all together is the problem.
How many times do you have to ride a century before you feel comfortable with the distance? How many marathons? How many times do you have to do those long bricks before your legs feel comfortable? Is their a magic number and what is it?
I read in horror CC's day at IMMoo. A seasoned IM veteran had a bad day. Why? What did she miss? What did she do prior to the race that affected her like that? Was it just something that happened? Is it just destiny that forces us to have good days and bad days?
To all the other IMFL competitors, I wish you the best of luck. I hope your training has gone well and your day is a good one. I hope you make your goals and the race is rich an experience as it can be.
Mostly, I hope that even with the hurricanes and all the missed workouts, I can still have a good day.

Sheldon, you cannot look back now, only look forward, and yes we can all measure x, y, and z and quantify them day to day, but on IM day you never know what can and will occur to impact your performance (positive or negatively), you have trained hard, life and mother nature sometimes get in the way, but you have done all you can, now it is time to focus on a taper, and your mental game. I don't know one IM athlete who in the immediate weeks preceeding the event has not questioned their past training.
Swim like a fish, ride like Lance, run like a kenyan, eat like a horse, and most of all be the best IM triathlete you can be that day in Florida.
Have fun

Couldn't have said it better myself.
The best plan is to stay ahead nutritionally the few days prior and during the race. Your body can handle the swimming, biking and running. It's the nutrition that I feel is overlooked on race day. You'll do great. And be positive during your taper.

I don't know anything about IM's but they seem to be giving you pretty good advice. I so admire you people who do them. Best of luck to you, I look forward to your report.
