Don't Let Me Near Your Treadmill

I'm at the gym tonight on the treadmill, doing tempo work. About 15 minutes into the run, there's a pop in the gym, like a firecracker going off. Several of us instinctively shut off our machines and look around. Nothing. Get things going again, and about 10 minutes later another bang.

People look around, and we figure maybe a lightning strike (according to one weather person here, we're supposed to get the same weather that southern Indiana got this weekend Shocked

).

One more time. 10 minutes later - BANG ! Like a shotgun being fired. Everyone in the gym stops and is loking at everyone. The staff starts walking around looking and looking - nothing. No smoke no nothing. But... I smell that ever-popular burned-out motor smell coming up from under me. And when I tried to start up the tread again, I get the message:

"Error 529 - MOTOR FAILURE" fubby

For the record:

1) The gym was cool about it - treadmill malfunctions are quite common. I'm not accountable by what I was running.

2) I'm 5'9 and 184 - not a runner's body, but not a bowling ball either. But I found it perfectly fitting that the random player on my CD started up with Collective Soul's "Heavy."
