The Fed Ex facility that delivers to southern FL is closed until at least Monday, probably later, and they lierally have MILLIONS of packages sitting in the distribution center. They will be backed up for a while even after re-opening. This is because of the lack of power.
I found out when some of our payroll and a bunch of stuff for a photo shoot did not arrive. It wasn't even mentioned on the website for tracking Fed EX packages as of Friday. The website lets you track when things have left and when they are supposed to be delivered, but there is no mention at all of this situation. I called and found this out.
The good news; UPS is up and functioning just fine!
I am mentioning it for those with family and friends in southern FL, and then I saw people wanting to send stuff to Sheldon. I just thought that I would save you some frustration.

So I imagine the United States Postal Service is asleep at the wheel ?
I'll bet they restarted mail service within 48 hours.
I'll also bet that you didn't know UPS has a 12% gas surcharge in effect...
Its still $ 3.85 for a 2 day priority mail package - best deal anywhere.
Once again the US Postal Service shows it can deliver !!!

If the "other guys" are soooo good, why didn't they inform customers of delays ? Why are they charging more for the same service ?
I will make money on the fact the USPS was up and running within a couple of days. With temporary post office trailers and, if not home delivery, centralized delivery at a facility. Everyone finds it comforting that, despite all that may have happended to them, the letter carrier is out there as soon as possible delivering mail. Its a big sign of "normalcy".
After Katrina hit, the USPS went into immediate action and set up unique ZIP codes for shelters. Helped people process changes of address so their mail and benefits would get through.
