I keep hearing about heart rate monitors. Some people say that they are necessary while others don’t care much about them. Are they necessary and why do people use them in the first place? What is so important about them? Do you use a heart-rate monitor on the ride?

Heart rate monitors are gadgets which may come handy if you pay attention to your heart beat. Some workouts demand your heart rate to be in a certain “zone” usually 60-80% of your heart rate max. Otherwise it is not necessary to have them. People have been riding bikes for decades without them. Yet they were healthy and successful.
