I posted a week or so ago about a hospital bill I owed and how they kept calling even tho I pay them every month. Got a phone call from them on Friday and they say if I pay them half of what I owe by Feb 1, then they will forget about the rest. I tell them ok I'll come up with it somehow, I got the ladys name and number. Now that I've been thinking about it, whats to keep them from saying that just to get their money sooner? Say I pay them half and they still say I owe the other half afterwards?

Also write "Payment in full" on the memo line. Depending on the law in your state, this can be binding as to any disputed debt.
That will be $20 please

Same thing happened to my BIL. Got out of half of a major bill after paying "the minimum" for months and months and months. The guy has been able to come out of the stickiest financial messes smelling like a rose.
I'm thinkin' it's legit.
I agree, the "payment in full" is always a good idea when paying something off.

I concur.
That will be $40 for the second opinion. ($40-$20=$20)

One zinger to ask them about is whether they'll send off a 1099 for their $3200 write-off. Nothin' could bite worse than getting that puppy a year from now and getting stuck with the tax bill on it. They have the right to do that since it is "earnings" to you. I've heard of the rare place doing that on their "bad debts" just to salt the wound.

Good advice here, make sure you hang on to everything, and if possible pay by certified check.
