I have a friend who shares an email account with her husband. It drives me crazy on two levels. First, I can't send her anything private because he reads all the emails. Secondly, he will read the email and not mark it as "unread" so she misses most of the stuff that I send to her because she thinks she has already read it. Lastly, these are the people whose business we now run...business issues have been done in error (or slower than normal) because of this.

I don't trust anybody enough to share an email address with them. People are too high maintenance.

Yes I do, its for family only and financial stuff. Although my wife and daughter each have their own

I use hotmail, gmail, and AIM for everything else.

I think a joint email account is absurd. Mostly because of the problems you mentioned. Maybe if you put the recipient's name in the subject, the other wouldn't read it?

Of course we have a joint one for all things emailed to us as a family. Bill pmt confirmations, etc.

I have one for my own stuff, but it isn't private---Mr Aire knows my account and passwords. (although he says he chooses to forget)

i have a private one (rather - my g/f doesn't have my pw). mostly because i have no idea what someone might send me, and i didn't want my g/f misinterpreting some random remark.

i also don't want her knowing if i've bought her something off of ebay or anything else.

i don't know. it's just kind've private. you gotta be able to have *some* privacy. it'd be like getting your phone calls screened...

plus all the above problems mentioned.

While married, joint and separate accounts. Will keep this practice. Just good for all involved.

I know my DH's password but I have enough emails of my own to read to be concerned about all of his too!

Yes, but privacy from a spouse can encourage innappropriate behavior.

I'm not married but in the case that you mentioned, I totally agree with you...a spouse that's hiding something from his/her partner sends clues that something's wrong with their relationship.

Maybe not at first...but you're right. It can sure foster/encourage dangerous liasons.

We have a shared "general" email account that most of our shared stuff goes too. Any registration stuff that we would do we would register under that email. Robin and I each have private email accounts for our second jobs, to run our private "business" stuff through and Robin has one at her work. I have a yahoo email that I use to email at work

I will be getting a fourth email when I start teaching.

She can access all of mine and has all of the passwords.

Anything that I do not want her to read I just tell her not too and she resepcts that (those are mainly "gift" related ones anyway)
