Of course not. Didn't you see the "fictional" movie Capricorn One? The goverment would never have allowed the truth to come out. It was really a documentary .

Yeah, we were in a "space" war with the Soviet Union back then. Now that we're buddies, perhaps our dollars would be better spent peering into space rather than trying to travel there. And there are so many other things we could spend billions of dollars on that would give a better return on our investment.
But yeah, we went to the moon.

Going to the moon brought quite a few benefits. Computer processing power has it roots in the space program, as does micro design enginering. I think one of the real tangible benefit of the space program are things such as computers we have today and all the economic growth they have brought our country. As for actually going to the moon--it satisfied a curiousity mankind had held for thousands of years and that in its ownself was worth the effort.

When considering everything else that is happening in the world currently, man on moon=inconsequential. IMO, there were then and still are better opportunites for the dollars spent on that particular endeavor.

I didn't mean to sound so sarcastic; I was more concerned with verbosity than tone
I absolutely agree with you here. It was dollars well spent then. The Space Program of today is where I'm not sure the money is well spent. Travelling beyond the moon but staying within our solar system is/will be incredibly costly and I don't think we've quite got the logistics down to man these flights. Even the little robot thingys (nice technical term, no?) have limited success. But perhaps I've just talked myself into a circular argument, because if we don't try, how will we learn? I guess what I'm saying is, there are things here, in this country and on this planet that could use some fixing-up, and perhaps we should clean up our mess here before we mess up somewhere else.

There were people then who thought it was a waste of money too.
People need to understand sometimes, you don't always see the results of an investment right away.

OK, just to play devils' advocate, one could argue that those of us who were not yet born or were merely tots when this took place should be reaping the benefits. Or should our offspring, if any? Someone please explain the benefits to me? (I've not seen them; apparently I am a more ignorant moron)
