Just got an email, I have beeen accepted into the NYC Marathon!!!!
But I want to do the Richmond (2 weeks later).
Crazy as I am, I might do both
I can run the NYC as a training run (my last LSD)
And than run the Richmond as a race.
I know, it's nuts.

If you plan to do this, you must run the NYC as that, a training run. You must run much slower than your goal pace, (maybe a minute per mile slower?)
You must not give in to temptation to "give it heck" because you feel good, or you will not be able to run well in two weeks.
But, yeah, You can do it! Best of luck Monk!

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea. I won't tell my brothers or sister, I will catch hell from them...

I would be prepared to shut it down after about 21 miles and coast in as slow as you please. I agree that taking it nice and slow the entire NYC will be key to any type of performance at Richmond.
It sounds insane...which is why I like your plan.

Alan's suggestion is a good one....if you can pick one or the other to do as the "race" and use the other as a long training run then hopefully you won't get injured. Plus, if you taper properly between the two you should have adequate time to recover, no?
But I still think it's insane....

I guess my question is are you looking to impprove your marathon time?
If that's the case then I would run the marathon in Richmond.
Yes you can use NYC as a training run but the goal marathon normally has a three week taper perion where you have a long run
of 22 miles 3 weeks out
of 15 miles 2 weeks out
of 10 miles 1 week out.
Doing NYC in week 2 of your taper may affect your goal marathon time, plus the strain of having your body recover only to run it again 26.2 miles 2 weeks later.

I agree with Alanin to a degree.
I would do NYC as a training run of 15-17 miles and that's it, or write a letter and ask to be considered for 2004.

WOW! Regardless of what you decide, I'm really inspired by your doing a marathon, to say nothing of back-to-back.

Good luck with your decision. Will you be running both/either in your super secret Reebok spy shoes???

GO MONK GO!
Even if your legs fall off you'll still have a cool story to tell.

You may get on Letterman if that happens too!!
To be able to say that you did two marathons in a span of 2 weeks? Priceless, yo.
You'll be smart about it. I'd go for it, monkster!
(oh, and congrats!)
