OK, I need to join the 21st century. Hey, my cell phone only makes phone calls. Anyway, I'm looking for a package camera with printer for $300-500. Any must haves or things that wont make a difference?

Some sort of rechargeable lithium battery is a necessity. Cameras that run strictly on AA baffle me.

Let me look in my handbag and see what kind of camera i have (Yes I always have it with me) It is a Cannon PowerShot s500 Digital Elph.
I paid about $400 for it and I love it! I got the printer for $150. It's really easy to use, too.
Look into it.

Rechargable batteries are definitely a plus.
One of the first thing I bought was a memory card.
A nice bonus on my camera was the ability to take some video (15 minutes with the expansion card), no sound though. I have only used this feature a couple of times.

We bought the Konica Dimage. It has a metal Leica lens and paid about $500 for it. It is an awesome camera with amazing capabilities. You can add lenses and filters to it. It is digital.
Gman has an awesome digital for everyday use that takes some amazing quality pics. PM him and ask him what it was. Because I can't remember.

It also has anti-shake which rocks!

It's hard to go wrong with Canon. Two friends of mine have Canons, one an A80 (she's had it a while) and one an S1 IS. I recently decided I needed one too, and I decided on the A95, the updated version of the A80. Cost me just under $300 online. Then I found a Canon iP4000 printer on sale for $100 including rebate; I think usual retail on those is $150 or so. I haven't tested this capability, but apparently I can print directly from the camera without messing with the computer.
I almost got the S1 IS -- it has 10X zoom and image stabilization, which are nice, plus a lot of manual controls if you're into that sort of thing. The A95 has fewer bells and whistles but takes larger pix (5 MP vs. 3.2). I suspect either one would meet your needs. The A85 is also worth a look. If you can, go to the electronics store and handle the various models -- you may end up going with how it feels in your hand as a tiebreaker.
Other makers have good cameras too. Those are just the ones I looked at closely.

Mine has a 10x optical zoom ( I think) and is 5.1 megapixels.
Plus it is very tiny. I did this because when I run I like to take it with me (races only). I also just love to take pictures of stuff and like to have it with me at all times.
It has a rechargable lithium battery. I bought a spare so i always have one ready just in case. I upgraded the memory card, too.
Picbridge technology by Canon makes it possible to print directly from the camera. There is actually a print button on the camera. Just attach the printer, scroll to the pic and press print. That's it.
IT is compact and durable. I've dropped mine and let JR use it occasionally and he is 7 (always supervised).

This is a requirement.
Canon looks like a great brand. Now to narrow it down to model.

Introduction
The Canon PowerShot S500 is the latest in the highly popular line of "Digital ELPH cameras from Canon. Canon's name is one of the few needing no introduction in the world of photography: Ask a photographer, be they professional or amateur, to name the first couple of camera manufacturers that they can think of, and chances are that Canon would be at or near the top of the list. In the digital arena, Canon has continued their history of innovation, with a broad line of products ranging from entry-level models all the way to no-holds-barred digital SLRs for professional photographers. In the consumer arena, their products are distinguished by superb design, sharp lenses, and excellent color.
In both the film and digital worlds, Canon has become known for their high-style, diminutive "ELPH" cameras. Long a popular brand for APS film cameras, Canon brought the ELPH size and styling to the digital world with the original S100. The PowerShot S500 breaks new ground with a larger, 5.0-megapixel CCD. The S500 carries over other improvements that first appeared in the PowerShot S400, including a Center-Weighted metering mode option, faster maximum shutter speed (1/2,000 second), and improved macro capabilities, adding a print share button. With the same great user interface common to Canon cameras and point-and-shoot operation driven by their dedicated image processors, the S500 is sure to please a host of consumers.
