I'd be pretty pissed if my race was hindered like that.

But I think they could have figured something with GPS to get the re-route to still make it a ten-miler.

So they had to re-route the entire race while the race was going on?
Gawd, think of that logistical nightmare. I understand people being pissed about not knowing what is going on, but to be able to keep the race going was phenomenal.

ya know that to do this while the event is happening is phenomenal in my view. the cource was probably altered by a few hundred yards or so....no longer a official, but definately better than blocking off the road and calling it off there. HOOOAH

Every year they have a gazillion tents set up that people can "rent" for their "teams" (this is a big team event for a lot of people - especially military folks). They call these tents HOOAH tents ('cause it's an Army race). Some of these folks get all crazy and decorate their tent and tent area and I suspect they give out awards for that.

We've got tracks through the center of Wobegon. I'm not sure which number race rule it is, but it's a top 10, "design a course that avoids the tracks."

we have this issue too on our A2A cource.. in '98 i thought it was gong to affect me more than it did but i only had to slow down for a moment and i was at the top of a hill with the tracks in the trough. it has affected the out come a few times but not too many. the race director just tells us that "thier might be this multi-ton piece of metal at mile 73, don't run into it or try to beat it, limbo under the gates or anything else stupid."
but those of us that do the a2a kind of have a masochistic mentalilty.
