I first read this as "desperate-runner gift giving" but now I see it's "desperate runner-gift giving." I was trying to figure out what a desperate runner was, and was thinking hey, any running is better than none. So I'm glad it's the other way.
Personally, I think a great gift is the video explanation of the quick and easy laces that are neither quick nor easy. Don't send the laces; just the video.
