w00t!!!!!!!!!! dance

Yep, my DH and I are officially debt free (besides the house!). I can't tell you what a journey this has been! When we first got married we came into the marriage with a lot of personal debt. He had been living off credit cards (thanks to his lovely ex) and I had been doing the same (thanks to a job loss half way across the country). Within the first few years of our marriage we had about $40K more in debt than we actually brought home per year. We had over a six figure debt! Embarassed We have worked hard for this. We haven't gone to any credit counseling service, we haven't claimed bankruptcy, or anything like that. Just some good ol' hard core saving, penny pinching, and smart consumer shopping (i.e. craigslist and freecycle!). We haven't always had everything we wanted but the most important thing is we have everything we need.

I am totally thankful (MOST OF ALL) that my DH decided to be the one in charge of paying all our bills, etc. because I totally suck at it! Neutral

...and look at me now...I have a cleaning lady! LOL

Good job Diva. I'm also debt free (other than the 6 months of child support I pay a year) although I'm looking to buy a house. No loans, no car payments, credit card paid off monthly and ex-wife paid off in full. And I won't be stretching myself to my limit buying a house either.

Congratulations.

We are working hard to get back to that point ourselves. It does feel good when you get there and I really miss that feeling.

so I'm guessing you got some extra bucks you can throw my way. Wink
actually, I'm eliminating some of my debt (left over from the marriage) and it does feel good. 1 bill is done, 2 more are very close. You can participate with me by sending me a check for $700 !!!!

Um...yeah...I'll get right on that! Wink

Seriously, though, we are going to save the extra money to buy a new house in the next year. We only had plans to stay here for two years and we will probably be staying for 2 1/2 - 3 years total. We just really want to move closer to DC again - we are too stinkin' far out!!!

I'm no stranger to finance or debt, or budgeting, and I am personally insanely jealous and happy for you.

Keep it up!
