Posted: 09/28/04 - 11:05 Post subject: Customer Service Complaints
I just got off the phone with a restaurant 'manager' that refused to help me. I authorized a specific amount to be charged on my card and just found out that a higher amount was actually processed. He told me I could call their corporate headquarters and have them resolve it. I said, "No, you can call the corporate headquarters and resolve it. I didn't screw up, your employee did!" He got his panties in a bundle because I'm actually making him fix the problem. I tell you, customer service is just out of control and going down the drain quickly!

Did you have the lower amount in writing ? If so, charging a higher amount is called "fraud". You might want to remind the manager of that...

I was very polite. Trying not to start throwing those words around until we actually get a copy of the receipt from the 'corporate office'. You never know, maybe I was whacked out that night and gave the guy a 50% tip.

I do remember. I've probably only given a 50% tip once or twice in my lifetime. It was fantastic service, which I believe in tipping well for. But this place is a dump, and I wasn't even flirting with the waiter. No way he got 50%! It was a joke.

Did you call in about it? Or just let it slide?

This happens all the time. I use my debit card for meals, I write down (theoretically, unless Rex is reading this, in which case it's actually) the amount, then I notice the bank holds my account for something close to it but a few dollars more.
Frankly, I wonder if it isn't somehow connected to the restaurant's way of squaring tips with the IRS.

I haven't done anything yet. I was thinking of taking my statement and receipt to the store and try to get a free meal out of them.
