On Tuesday I went to the Duluth Curling Club to watch a round of the Junior National Championships...
Hate to offend any curling fans out there, but your "sport" is just plain absurd.

Curling is one tough sport. If you've never tried it, you're missing out. Sure, it's not like lifting weights (although sweeping is challenging), but the skill and strategy required is immense.
MED -- grab a slider and a broom and give it a shot.

I'm not doubting the skill and strategy. I just think the idea behind it is absurd. It's the brooms, mostly.

well if you throw the rock hard enough, you won't need brooms. then again, you couldn't really hurry hard, or sweep, or do half of the things that require intense yelling.
i don't think it's any stranger then golf, nascar, bowling, basketball or football for that matter.
it *is* fun to play. what part of the brooms don't you like?

It's sort of like shuffleboard. That's about the closest activity I can compare it to.
Shuffleboard isn't a sport. Maybe bocce ball? Curling's OK. I'll watch that during the Winter Olympics before I watch that frickin' figure skating and ice dancing.

That's probably because it was the women's round. All of the spectators were senior citizens.

make any playing surface large enough and it becomes a sport... (imagine real life chess )
i think on your definition we also have to exclude: baseball, golf, cricket, nascar, and possibly a few others.

If you think those brooms are absurd, grab the ol' corn broom and try sweeping with that. Now that's a workout! But they do work the best. The bristle brooms have habits of leaving bristles on the ice....which does super nasty things with your shot.

in terms of "athletic" ability, i can see your point... but i think it has it's place.
after all - how is bobsledding an event? all it is is glorified toboganning in a missle like sled.
ah well curling is fun. and if you ever thought football was an excuse to get drunk - you reaaaally need to take in a bonspiel.
