Has anyone ever called to try and get their rates reduced on their credit cards? I was looking at the 2 of ours and the rates seem awfully high. Do I try and bluff them and tell them I will transfer it if they don't lower it or what?

I've done it before quite a few years back when we carried balances for awhile.
Yep, it worked, I was able to knock it down a few percents.

Just ask. If you don't have too much debt and have a decent credit rating, they'll lower it. Except for a Citi Mastercard. They suck.

Thanks Everyone,
I will try and call over the next few days and see what I can get. If they can't get close to this one offer I have then I will just roll the cards over into one and just make the one payment each month.

I hate carrying a balance also but sometimes the bills come in faster than the cash.
This is one of this years resolutions of getting the bills paid down/under control.

Weird, they told me they can't do it. Which is odd because others have given me better rates. No matter. We're working on getting rid of our cards.

We refinanced and took out more than our mortgage to pay the bills off. Now I can deduct that interest (as part of the mortgage). And I only have one big monthly thing to deal with. If I do use my credit card, I pay it in full each month.
Maybe it's b/c they gave credit to everybody with a pulse in the late 90s, but now I see a lot of credit companies raising their rates really high, so it definitely pays to call and ask them to knock it down.

Just so you guys know...I heard on the news yesterday that they are going to start DOUBLING (as of Jan 1) the "minimum payment" on credit cards. This may cause a LOT of people to claim bankruptcy.

Well I called my 2 card companies and the one would only offer me a home equity loan at MAYBE 7 to 11 percent and the other said the best they could do was to take 4 percent off my rate. I have an offer in hand that beats both of those hands down. Time to transfer the balances and maybe cut up all my cards.
I really hate being broke.
