"if you are proficient in speaking spanish, please come to the office NOW" said the principal in a school-wide announcement a few minutes ago.
How I'd love to be there for this. This school district is not very multi-cultural, but the same laws apply to us as urban schools where many languages may be spoken. I'm wondering what this situation is, and if we'll be getting a spanish speaking student. I sure hope so! this place is entirely too redneck.

I just talked to the student teacher who went to the office to help (she was also a spanish major) it looks like we're getting a spanish speaking student. this will certainly make things interesting here.

seriously, this is Marlboro country. In my 1,000 students I have about 6 African American kids, 1 Native American, 0 Asians, 0 Middle Eastern students. They're all white, really white, painfully white, and carry with them the prejudices of their parents and grandparents. This 1 student will cause quite a stir.
