PostPosted: 03/27/03 - 04:39    Post subject: Considering a slight job change
I'm currently a full time student with 1 semester (4 classes) left before I graduate. For a while, I have been looking for a Information Technology Manager position or a teaching position with K-12 schools in my geographic area.

Well, in the past few days, I found an Information Technology Manager position at a school system in Southeastern Indiana. I also found that a teaching position will be opening up at the school system I currently work part-time for in East-central Indiana. Both of these positions are full time positions that will require me to drop my class load.

I'm not considering dropping out before I get my degree. I am just considering taking one class or so per semester until I finish. I figure I can finish my degree by August 2004.

As I apply for these positions, I just keep thinking, "What could happen? They don't even call me back. I get some practice concerning my interview skills. I get a full-time position."

Is it at all possible to finish your semester and then get a job?

Sometimes life gets in the way and makes it difficult to finish even though you are close...

If it's not possible to just finish up, then I say apply! They'll prolly fall in love with you on the spot. If not, a lot of districts keep your application on file and do call back later when other positions open up!

Congratulations and good luck on this eventful time in your life! Wow!!!

I've considered just finishing out my last semester, but not many positions are open in December. Most school positions open up in the spring. I would still get my degree. It will just take a few extra months.

It also depends on if I get the interviews and if I get offers. It is entirely possible that I won't even get an interview. In that case, the decision is easy.

You're confusing this high school graduate. I don't know what you're talking about because I've never done the college thing, but do what makes you happy and what you think will be best in the long run. Okay? Okay.

You know, it could also work out that someone is "leaving" in December for whatever reason and they could fill that position in advance. Those are those "perfect" situations we can only hope for, eh?

How about going on the interview and see what they have to offer. You can always turn down the job.

That's also an option. If they are not offering much or if the program doesn't look promising, I could just stay where I am. That thought had also crossed my mind.

I wasn't laughing at Greg's answer, dippy! (OR DID YOU KNOW THAT, I'M TO STUPID TO KNOW YOU'RE PULLING MY LEG?!)

Kob's trying hard to ignore the fact that we've hijacked this thread.

Let's get back on topic, here, before we get bum-rushed. Ahem! Now, about your dilema...

My thinking is that you won't get the job if you don't interview for it. If anything the interview process will be a good experience. Best of luck to you.

It's easy to mess with the sleep deprived. I think someone once did a study.

I am eternally sorry kobyj that we hijacked your thread.

We didn't mean to. We'll move it to another thread.

I think Greg's answer is great. I think getting interview practice is excellent.
If you do use it as practice, you can ask your interviewer after what you could have done differently/better. You are far braver than I will ever be!!

Oh it doesn't matter. I'm taking a brake from my lab reports and am sorting through 6.5 rolls of film. I'm trying to get the last of my pictures from my Kentucky trip up on my website.
