Got home very late from Turner Field last night. Our crowd was into it, but we couldn't pull the Braves through. Left too many runners on base and our bullpen was horrible.

Best of luck to Houston against St. Louis! My pick for the World Series: Boston over STL in 6 games.

What is it about Atlanta that they can't accomplish anything in post-season? You can't argue with one-hundred gazillion straight division titles, so Bobby Cox must be doing something right. But why the melt-down year after year in post-season?

Not to sound like sour grapes, but the MLB playoffs are a total crap shoot.

The Braves have proven they are one of the top teams over the span of an extensive 162-game regular season schedule. Why they have to prove it again over a short 5-game series over an oppenent that finished 5, 10, 15, 20 games behind them in the standings is beyond me? And that's just to advance to the 7-game Championship Series. Get over that and you have 7 more games for the World Series.

Needless to say, I'm not a fan of the expanded MLB playoffs and Wildcard. I say go back to the days of two divisions in each league. The pennant races would have been simply amazing this year: Boston/NY battling down to the wire in their division - Oakland/Texas/Anaheim battling to the final weekend - Atlanta/Florida/Chicago in their division - Houston/St. Louis/San Fran down to the wire. Those pennant races would have been awesome!

Or you can one more wildcard team to each league and make the 2 wildcard teams play each other (best of 3) first. The two division winners with the best records would get a bye into the 2nd round. The wildcard winner would play all of their games on the road at the division winner with the best record in the regular season. The other two division winners would play home/away like they do now. As it stands now, the wildcard teams are just about on equal footing with the division winners. I think the wildcard winners need to be at a more severe disadvantage when it comes to the postseason.

Not to make an excuse, but I think the Braves have basically been unlucky. Baseball remains a quirky sport. Especially in the post-season.

So do you think the wild-card is better than, say if they took each league and split them into four divisions? I'm just thinking would this get watered down to the point of the NHL, where a team would have to be pretty much useless to miss the playoffs more often than not. (hello, Chicago Black Hawks Twisted Evil )

I think four teams in each league should make the play-offs, no more. I just throw out the four divisions vs wild-card idea for discussion, no opinion either way.

4 divisions in each league? That would be weird, even if the same number of teams went to the playoffs. 4 teams of 14 would make the playoffs in the AL and 4 of 16 would make the playoffs in the NL. I still think that is a bit excessive.
