My son's daycare is housed in a sort of community center that has programs for kids of all ages from infants to teenagers. Today, because it was a vacation week, some of the younger ones were using the teen's game room.

Okay cool. I walk into the room and scrawled across the board is

Bridget is a Pimpette!

I mentioned it to the young man and young lady on duty and I got looks that said . So I took it to the school-aged coordinator. SHe understood, but... still I wonder if I was being paranoid.

Discuss.

I don't think it's being paranoid at all.

I understand the reasoning of mixing the two groups of kids, but the youngster's should not be exposed to that kind of stuff. Furthermore, it's really inappropriate to have up there anyway. If I were running the place, I wouldn't allow anything of the sort to be posted on the chalkboards or on paper period. It's just not appropriate for that kind of environment.

Hopefully the director will take your concerns seriously and will make sure this doesn't happen again.

I definitely don't think you're being paranoid. Hopefully the schoolage director heard/understood and will take some sort of action...

Definitely not being paranoid, but I think it's a mistake to believe the older ones wrote it. Shocked (my high schoolers would have been much more profane than that)

Has anyone seen the HBO special on Middle Schoolers? They are far, far, far more advanced than they should be. Ever.

You should read some of the notes I find on the floor of the bus after I drop the middle school kids off!

I don't think you're being paranoid either. Marcie is right, it shouldn't have been up there to begin with. I'll be interested to hear what the director has to say. You might have known you weren't going to get any resolution from the knotheads who work there.

From what I understand about paranoia, no, you do not appear to be psychotic. You don't seem to be excessively or irrationally suspicious or distrustful of others. The verdict is in: not guilty of paranoia.

Now, if we're talking concerned vs. nitpicky...it appears that you are certainly a concerned parent. There's nothing wrong with that and it's how all parents should be - concerned for their children. But you didn't tell us whether or not your child can read. I mean, were you asked by your child, "What's a pimpette?" That's when it can get a little dicey and cause for concern. However, if your child cannot read, I don't think that there's much to worry about...right now!

And as far as reporting this? I wouldn't stop with the young person "in charge." It would go to the adult who's responsible for them all. That's who gets my message that there is inappropriate behaivior on his/her watch.

Of course, it's just my opinion or.... -worth.

Good luck with it and here's hoping you can get them to understand your most reasonable point of view.

Concerned parent - yes.
Nitpicky - only if the grafitti hadn't rhymed.

I would have mentioned it as well, right after I erased it off the board. I don't think you're being nitpicky.

I'm going to go with Nitpicky. Not because I think that you were being nitpicky, but because this seems to be a one-sided thread so far.

so in this room where the teens hang out, is it ok with the director that some of the young people who go there are singled out for ridicule?

It's not just about inappropriate words where younger children can see them, it's also about harassment or at least providing a safe environment for teens. It might have been a joke, intended to be harmless, but I think in this case it's difficult to tell.

I had a 6th grader walk in my room yesterday calling one of the girls an "SSS" (his made up initials for her) 2 of the "s's" were for stinky and skank....i don't remember the 3rd. I ignored it the first time, but nailed him when he said it again.

Pimpette is a natural progression of Smurfette....
Let's trace it back, as the years have passed, the smurfs like many of us, have grown up. The networks felt restricted in having the Smurfs work "blue" (even with their natural pigmentation). The networks wanted something with more substance, something to sink your teeth into.
The Gargamel and Azriel chasing and blundering every week became stale and old. Then one day, a young network executive struck gold when he decided to let the Smurfs "grow up".
Some Smurfs initially were aghast by the changes...they wanted bond together and retain their sterotypes. The network "tweaked" the smurfs grow up concept and allowed the Smurfs to mature, but well within their original characters.
That is how we have come to love the NEW SMURFS
Brainy- the dot.com genius who had developed a very successful computer enterprise to only waste the money up his nose.
Handy- Originally the host of "This Old Hut", but after a lawsuit filed by EsquireSmurf, lost his show and descended into Smuft Porn and became the guy with the "Big Tool"
and of course Pimpette...formerly known as Smurfette. She realized that being the only girl in town had it's advantages and became both Pimp and Ho.

I talked to the director who did a Shocked when she heard what was on the board and about the I got from Jenny and Nick when I expressed my concern.

She marched down that hall as fast as her New Balance cross trainers would carry her.
