Anyone know how to delete a program when it says access denied. My dad called yesterday and he found some apparent spyware on his computer and he when he tries to use the add/remove program that doesn't seem to do it. He then tried to delete the whole folder in question and he gets a permissions error.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Eric

Have him download
Spybot or Adware from Download.Com
The will usually do the trick. I have Spybot and I run at least once a week.
That should take care of the problem

Which OS is he using? He may need to set himself up as an administrator on the system if he is using XP. Seems unlikely, but it's possible.

malware infections are heinous. My computer keeps getting reinfected. I post a log here after running hijackthis: http://forums.tomcoyote.com/index.php and a techie
The techie then tells me what to delete. Unfortunately, there are several programs that when deleting temporary files will not let me delete them. I ran adaware 6.0 and there were 161 problems. Anyway, maybe he could try what the others suggested and if not, have hiim download hijackthis, scan, and then copy log and post on the technical help forum I'm using. I wish him luck as this is incredibly annoying.

Click on Start > Run > type in MSCONFIG and hit OK.
Click on the Startup tab and then uncheck everything that looks stupid. Click OK and then restart your computer.
NOW go in and try to delete those pesky files.
