They haven't decided the time or place for our's yet, but they invite the all the people from the different companies that our office runs so I actually get to hang out with people other than the same 7 people I spend 40 hrs. a week with.

What time should I be over??
We haven't had a christmas party in a few years here. Which is fine by me, I really don't need to see these people more than I already do.

even more fub, write the name of a well-known Christmas carol on a name tag then stick it on the backs of visitors as they arrive (don't let them see it) their job is to ask someone 2 questions (only 2) about their carol and figure it out by the end of the evening. Promotes mingling!

Our elaborate over the top champagne flowing forth black tie affair was canceled this year due to budget concerns. No love lost here.

We have a staff christmas party at the local steakhouse. I'll probably be working on the stupid basement...hanging sheetrock, etc...
The guy is installing our new shower and furnace and water heater today and tomorrow! Hooray! once he's done...we can start building walls!

That is a great idea Keltic!!! I have been to parties where they did the names of celbs on the backs of people. It really does a good job of promoting mingling.

I'd trade with you, j. My company always like to make a STATEMENT with the annual festivus (last year we went to the Mutter Museum aka House of Oddities, the year before when I wasn't here the Gorilla Habitat at the Philly Zoo). Since our horrible takeover by the evil empire this year, our budget was slashed. Suggestions were made for a less STATEMENT-like affair, maybe having an eat and drink fest at a local hall or something. Totally would've fit within the budget. Instead they're going to the Franklin Institute's Aviation Room. Sounds cool, but I'm boycotting because:
1) it's on a Friday night at 7pm
2) it's for three hours (why friggin' bother?)
3) parking is damn expensive down there
4) cocktails and hors d'oeuvres only (come on, FEED ME, people)
Note that we work until 5, and are at least an hour away from Center City with traffic. Forget lookin' nice and all, you'd have just enough time to go home, throw your work stuff down, and change into something sorta presentable. And I pity those folks who have to worry about kids and daycare issues. Plus we have late support for our west coast customers, so four people are automatically excluded from the festivities. Way to go, party planners, for thinking of your employees this holiday season.
So I said f--k you and your STATEMENT. It's not worth the effort, so I declined. All others who decline are invited out to a dinner/drink festival up here, close to work, where most of the employees live anyways. But no, I'm not too bitter about it.
